Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) secretary general, Sibongile Nkomo says that the cooperation in opposition parties is not something unheard of.
This comes after the party and Economic Freedom fighters’ leadership met in Durban on Sunday and agreed to protect each other during campaigning ahead of this year’s elections
Nkomo has stressed that this has happened in other countries before.
The secretary however emphasises that this does not mean that the parties have merged.
In an interview on SA FM’s Am Live show Tuesday morning, Nkomo highlighted that the meeting saw the parties discussing issues relating to the inequalities in land which the parties have different views on. The secretary however emphasises that this does not mean that the parties have merged.
“It is just cooperation between opposition parties” she says.
She also points out that the president of the party Mangosuthu Buthelezi has accepted EFF leader, Julius Malema’s apology.
Malema apologised for derogatory statements he has made about Buthelezi in the past.
