JOHANNESBURG – Several Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters have criticised President Jacob Zuma saying he won’t be around after the 2016 local government elections.

The party is holding a ‘Thank You Rally’ at Sandton’s Innesfree Park in Johannesburg this afternoon.

Thousands of supporters are celebrating the organisation’s performance in the recent general election.

The party received 6.5 percent of the vote and 25 parliamentary seats.

Several EFF supporters chanted “Zuma is rubbish and will be discarded”.

The party’s Gauteng convenor Mgcini Tshwaku says today’s event is about letting members relax and not about politics.

“Today’s event is just a thank you rally where we are actually thanking our volunteers, our party agents and the people of Gauteng for voting us into the legislature.”

EFF leader is set to address the crowd later this afternoon. But even without Malema’s presence, celebrations are in full swing.

Meanwhile the City Of Cape Town’s new Mayoral Committee (Mayco) member for Economic, Environment and Spatial Planning, says it’s a major honour to take up the position.

On Friday Mayor Patricia de Lille announced a re-shuffling of her Mayco, as two previous members are expected to take up seats in Parliament soon.

There are new faces heading up the Human Settlements, Corporate Services, Health and Economic Directorates.

Johan van der Merwe, who is the new economic MCM, believes it’s a privilege to work for the City of Cape Town.

“We are the well run city in South Africa and we get a lot of accolades every year so I’m very proud and I know it’s a very big, daunting task to be part of this team and to keep the city on that track.
