CAPE TOWN – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have distanced themselves from an incident involving the dumping of human faeces outside the Sanlam building in Bellville last week.

It’s understood about 30 people, many of them EFF members, held a demonstration against labour brokering on Friday.

But when police arrived, a scuffle ensued and human faeces was apparently hurled at the building.
Sanlam’s Ainsley Moos says, “They were a group of people wearing red berets, claiming to belong to the EFF. As they tried to empty the containers filled with excretion, a scuffle erupted between some of them and police members. The incident lasted for about 15 minutes.”

The party’s Nazier Paulsen has confirmed 12 of their members are currently behind bars.

“There are allegations that faeces was thrown. If that is the case we regret any damage to any property. I cannot confirm or deny this.”
