Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema says the African National Congress (ANC) needs Jesus to return to earth, because the party has become arrogant. Malema was speaking at an EFF rally in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg.
He was apparently referring to a statement by President Jacob Zuma in 2009, when Zuma said the ANC would rule until Jesus returned. Malema, who previously held the position of ANC Youth League president, was expelled from the party in 2012. He launched the EFF on Thursday.
Malema’s told the rally in Sebokeng that the new party will have firm anti-corruption policies.
Malema is currently facing corruption, fraud, money-laundering, and racketeering charges in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. Malema’s Polokwane home is to go under the hammer in two weeks’ time. The South African Revenue Services (SARS) says Malema owes it close to R16 million in unpaid taxes. His Sandton home and his Limpopo farm have already been auctioned.
The movement’s national committee consists of Malema, Floyd Shivambu, Mpho Ramakatsa, socialite Kenny Kunene and actor Fana Mokoena. Malema is adamant that they are a government in waiting.
He says white South Africans are also welcome to join the movement, but they must be willing to share the land.
