EFF leader Julius Malema has warned SABC boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng that President Jacob Zuma would dump him “like a used condom” – because Zuma was a tribalist.

Malema said he was speaking from personal experience. “Zuma doesn’t care about other people. I am a living example. When he dumps you, we will bring the truck and celebrate,” Malema said.

Malema today led a large crowd of supporters from Parktown, Joburg, to the SABC offices in Auckland Park where a memorandum was handed over to SABC executives, including acting CEO Tian Olivier and acting COO Motsoeneng.

The road leading to the SABC was closed as EFF supporters huddled around the main entrance amid heavy police guard.

The march followed the SABC’s decision to ban the EFF’s election advert two week ago, claiming that its call to “physically destroy” e-tolling gantries incited violence and “was lending support to unlawful acts”.

Malema, who was speaking from an elevated make-shift stage erected from his campaign truck, accused Motsoeneng of being an ANC puppet who had reduced the SABC to an “individual”.

Malema said the ANC communications sub-committee controlled the SABC, and said this used to happen when he was still serving in that committee before his expulsion from the ANC.

“Hlaudi, we are not marching to the SABC. We are marching to you. We avoided going to your home.

“If you do not behave yourself in a way befitting an African brother in an executive position, we will remove you,” he said.

Malema warned the SABC COO against being used by Zuma’s faction in the ANC, saying the party would get rid of him after the elections as Public Protector Thuli Madonsela had made adverse findings against him.

He said Zuma had unceremoniously dumped unionist Zwelinzima Vavi and politician Fikile Mbalula.

Malema also attacked Olivier, saying he lacked integrity for accepting the SABC job after the previous incumbent resigned. He said he had been reduced to Motsoeneng’s personal assistant despite having higher qualifications.

Regulator Icasa ruled in the SABC’s favour on Saturday and upheld the decision not to flight the advert. Malema today accused it of being controlled by the ANC too.

“I say this with authority because I was sitting in those committees. When you complain to Icasa about the SABC, you are complaining to the same people [ANC], all of them puppets of Jacob Zuma,” he said.

Earlier, SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago would not comment on the march, saying the dispute over the advert had been resolved by Icasa.
